The Mercedes has under delivered on the development aspect which has caused issues such a high levels of porpoising on track. George Russell has adapted better than Lewis Hamilton to overcome these difficulties as he manages to be 21 points ahead of his team mate in drivers standing. Ralf Schumacher commented on this saying, “We also have to talk about Lewis Hamilton, of course. He has to ask himself why George Russell is so much faster than him. A thirteenth place finish is obviously not Hamilton’s ambition. He has to admit that Russell is the better driver at the moment.”

Lewis Hamilton was pipped in the last race of 2021 by Max Verstappen to win the championship. This led to high speculation of the retirement of the seven time world champion. However, Lewis Hamilton returned to the sport to fight for the 2022 title. Elaborating on this, Ralf Schumacher said “I am absolutely not saying that Lewis has missed the boat to end his career. Lewis is still one of the best drivers in the field. That’s obvious.”

There may be changes in the hierarchy.” The 2022 season is still in the early stages with the Mercedes team leaving no stone unturned in its quest for development of the W13.
