Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes F1 team have been at the negotiation table for quite some time regarding the former’s new contract. The saga has kept on stretching further, and amidst the upcoming Hungarian GP, Hamilton has indicated that Mercedes’s form at the pinnacle of motor racing is not going to have any kind of impact on his ongoing contract discussions.

Lewis Hamilton’s current deal with the Brackley-based team is ending at the end of 2023, and both parties have been in discussion since the very start of the campaign. It is believed that money is not an issue, but what is taking longer than expected is the Brit’s future role with the team.

Hamilton, being a former 7-time F1 World Champion, has got a certain idea of what he wants from his new Mercedes contract, and while talking about the same with racingnews365, he said, “Before the end of the season we will be already well into the [new] contract. I still have 100% faith in this team, and it has taken longer for all of us to get to where we want to be, it is definitely not easy.”

But I believe we will get there. We’ve just got to continue to work and chip away at it – and that’s what we are trying to do. We will have bits [coming to the car] over the [upcoming] races, it could come soon enough, but I’m pushing as hard as I can. I was having big meetings with the team, speaking to the head of aerodynamics, head of vehicle dynamics with what is in mind for next year’s car,” he added.

During the turbo-hybrid era, the Mercedes Formula 1 team was easily the top dog in the sport, with not many teams being able to match their level. However, since the dawn of the new regulations in 2022, the outfit has slipped backward on the grid and hasn’t been able to pose a challenge for the Championship.

Lewis Hamilton has been with Mercedes since 2013 and has tasted several unforgettable triumphs. Keeping this in mind, he is fully committed to giving his best for the team and, hopefully, bringing back its glory days. Moreover, what pushes him even more to keep going at the age of 38 is the eighth World Championship.

He is tied with Michael Schumacher on seven World Championships and is desperate to secure his eighth world title. While Mercedes has struggled in the last two years, it has done a lot of learning from past mistakes, and it is believed that they are planning on having a serious go at the title next year.
