Lewis Hamilton gives up hope of catching Red Bull and Ferrari: ‘These guys are miles ahead’
After a frustrating race in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton is hopeful for a better weekend this time out in Baku.
Lewis Hamilton the former 7-time Formula One Champion after the Azerbaijan Qualifying has given his thoughts on the Ferrari-Red Bull battle and has also admitted that his team is nowhere near the top two teams.
The Brackley-based Mercedes Formula One team has struggled this season to get to grips with the new regulations and has not been seen fighting at the front end but rather is stuck in a midfield battle.
While talking about the downward spiral at Mercedes Hamilton has said, “We’re not even racing those guys at the front, they’re in a completely different league. It seems that these guys are miles ahead.”
Hamilton and Co. were expected to be fighting for the Championship this season, however, things have not panned out the way they would have wanted. While Ferrari and Red Bull have taken steps forwards from last year, the silver arrows have gone in the wrong direction.
Mercedes is the reigning Constructors Champion and given what the team has produced so far, it is not going to come as a huge shock if Mercedes is not seen at the front end during the business end of the season.
Lewis Hamilton believes Mercedes has got loads of work to do
The Brackley-based Mercedes team is starting today’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix in P5 and P7 but they have got a lot of competition and it is not going to be easy for them to hold their positions given the characteristics of the track.
The front four are out of the question as they are way ahead of the rest and the best possible finish that Mercedes can hope for is a P5 and P6 barring any incidents that could propel them further up the grid.
Lewis Hamilton has proved second best to his new teammate George Russell on most occasions during the current season and especially for him, the upcoming race is ongoing to be crucial to make up the ground to Russell in terms of points.
Hamilton is on 50 points whereas Russell has got 84 points to his name after 7 races. The two are starting the race in close proximity to each other and their fans are going to be keenly watching how they are going to go in Azerbaijan and whether the duo would be able to put a strong performance for the team.
