The Formula 1 drivers got their first taste of the new track layout at the Marina Bay Circuit during yesterday’s FP1 session. Several drivers were seen providing positive feedback about it, and Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes F1 driver, has also made it known that he is immensely pleased with the new changes.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit has gone through a major change ahead of the ongoing Singapore GP weekend. What used to be Turn 15 to Turn 20 and 21 chicane until last year’s race has now been changed into a straight that is expected to reduce the lap times by a decent margin of around 10 seconds.

Most of the teams and the drivers are quite pleased with the new modifications. Lewis Hamilton, while applauding the Singapore GP organizers, said, as reported by Soymotor, “It’s been a great day in Singapore. They’ve done a great job with the changes to the circuit, and I love driving here more than ever. The new asphalt is great, and they’ve made driving more enjoyable.”

“Eliminating those four corners has made it absolutely perfect, it’s incredible. We’re still a little far from where we want to be, but it hasn’t been too bad. Free Practice 2 has been the best of the entire year and it’s good to end Friday with positive feelings. We have a good platform to work on for the rest of the weekend. week. I have not felt better than on any other Friday and I hope we can continue improving,” he added.

While Lewis Hamilton is looking forward to a strong outing at the Marina Bay Circuit, his teammate, George Russell, is also in a good frame of mind after yesterday’s sessions. He said, “It has been a very positive Friday for us in general terms. The race pace is also strong, so we can be optimistic for the rest of the weekend.”

The two Mercedes drivers were seen troubling the timing sheets during the FP1 and FP2 sessions, where they both were in the top 6. Moreover, with Red Bull having a tough day, the Toto Wolff-led team is eyeing an extremely strong result, as it is not every day that the two RB19s are seen tussling outside of the Top 3.

Mercedes is currently second in the Drivers Championship, and their straight competition is with Ferrari and Aston Martin. Both these teams also had strong outings yesterday, and considering this, the Mercedes team would have to be at their very best to keep them at bay during the Singapore GP.
