Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes F1 team has been unable to get to grips with the new regulations that kicked in at the start of the 2022 season. While the Brackley-based-teams woes seem never-ending, Hamilton has admitted that Ferrari could be the next team to dominate F1 amidst Red Bull’s ongoing dominance.
During the turbo hybrid era, Mercedes was the top dog of the sport, with all the rest of the teams scratching their heads to challenge them for World Championships. However, while the German team is currently on a downward slope, Red Bull has risen up and has been running the show since last year.
However, despite this fact, Lewis Hamilton feels Ferrari is the next team in line to have a dominant run in F1. While talking about the same, he said, as reported by Formulapassion, “These are speeches that have always come up, even when it was Mercedes that dominated. I remember when we were battling against Ferrari and I remember years when we had the edge over our rivals.“
“So the FIA introduced new rules, and the budget cap was supposed to level the field, but it didn’t do it. If we continue like this, maybe Ferrari will dominate in the next few years, or maybe McLaren will do it, or maybe Mercedes will get back in front, but I think that’s not the best thing for the fans. We shouldn’t have the chance to dominate for more years, the battle for the top positions should be closer, and instead Red Bull can also dominate in the next three seasons.”
Lewis Hamilton is desperate to lift the F1 title one more time
While Lewis Hamilton has backed the Charles Leclerc-led Ferrari F1 team to dethrone Red Bull on its current F1 pedestal, he himself has got some goals to crush at the pinnacle of motor racing. Despite being 38, he is determined to win the F1 World Championship for a record-breaking eighth time.
He is currently the joint highest with Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher and wants to become the outright record holder. Mercedes has got a lot of pedigree when it comes to F1, and it is a common belief that Mercedes could come up with a Championship-worthy car for the 2024 season of the sport.
However, until then, the ongoing campaign is all about damage limitation for Mercedes, with the target to finish second in the Constructors Championship. Aston Martin, Ferrari, and even McLaren are the other contenders vying for the same position, and the fight for second will surely go down to the wire.
