The Brazilian GP, signaling the last Sprint weekend this year, is on the horizon. Sao Paulo’s race, known for its electrifying entertainment, was abuzz earlier this time, thanks to Lewis Hamilton. Renowned for his sartorial flair on Thursday’s media day, the seven-time champion raised the stakes by donning an outfit paying homage to Brazilian racing legend Ayrton Senna, setting the streets abuzz.
Hamilton has garnered a fan following not just for his racing skills but also for his fashion choices. His affinity for Senna, a childhood hero and three-time champion, is well-known. To honor the upcoming race and express his admiration, the 38-year-old driver donned a striking Ayrton Senna-themed outfit.
In a touching tribute to his inspiration, Hamilton appeared in an outfit adorned with the Brazilian flag and Senna’s iconic helmet-eye shot on the back. The attire, featuring the vibrant green and black of Brazil, was an unexpected and heartfelt gesture that left everyone pleasantly surprised.
Back in 2022, Hamilton even was granted honorary Brazilian citizenship at Brazil’s Congress. The honor, received in Brasilia’s Chamber of Deputies before the race, was influenced by his lifelong admiration for Brazil, especially Senna, and his 2008 championship win in the country. During the ceremony, Hamilton expressed profound gratitude, saying:
It is honestly the greatest honour for me to be here receiving and accepting this citizenship. I really do feel like now I'm one of you, finally.
Fans claim Lewis Hamilton adapts his persona to align with the crowd’s sentiment
In contrast, when images of Hamilton’s attire surfaced in the public eye, it triggered a significant backlash. Hamilton’s fashion choices have consistently elicited polarized opinions among his fans. While some lauded him as a fashionista and style icon, others derided his outfits as eccentric and unconventional. A fan even commented that he was “Dressed as an Amazon frog.”
Many fans accused Hamilton of using his wardrobe as a deliberate publicity stunt. They argued that he continually seeks attention and adulation from the public, viewing his fashion choices as just another facet of his performance. One critic branded Lewis as a “Limelight merchant” and accused him of ‘pandering to whatever the crowd’ is.

He's trying so hard to appeal to the Brazilians. And they'll eat it up since Brazil has no good drivers.

With the Brazilian GP approaching, the Senna fan aims to replicate his performances from the past two years and narrow the gap to Sergio Perez. Nevertheless, fans remain divided, with a significant portion poking fun at Hamilton’s unconventional attire choices and his apparent desire for crowd attention.
