Lewis Hamilton debuted with McLaren in 2007 and won the following year’s championship. Over the years, the seven-time world champion has won on a majority of circuits he has raced at. Now, Hamilton has finally named his favorite circuit on the calendar.

The Mercedes driver was asked about his favorite track by GQ. Lewis Hamilton picked Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The 38-year-old won his first-ever F1 race at the Canadian circuit 16 years ago. Certainly, this victory formed a special bond for Hamilton with this iconic track. He replied, “Montreal. That’s where I had my first win in 2007 when I was 22.”

However, Lewis Hamilton has other favorite circuits as well. The seven-time world champion named Silverstone as another personal pick as the British track hosts his home race. Moreover, the Circuit of the Americas in the US as well as Marina Bay in Singapore are two more favorites of the seven-time champion. Lastly, the 38-year-old picked Japan’s Suzuka due to the track’s legacy.

Hamilton further stated, “Silverstone, that’s my home. The British Grand Prix is always just special and unique because the family can come. Austin, Texa is one of my favorite tracks. It’s a newer circuit but it’s mega for racing… Singapore is pretty cool. The Japanese one is one of the best tracks in the world. It’s legendary.”

Lewis Hamilton wants F1 to race in Africa

The Formula 1 calendar currently spans across the globe on five continents. However, Africa has remained off the calendar for three decades now. Lewis Hamilton believes that the sport must get back to the continent with the sport’s rising popularity. The 38-year-old insisted on bringing back the South African GP before he retires from the sport.

Certainly, F1 as a world championship must have at least one race on the African continent. Talks have been conducted in the past regarding the return of Kylami on the calendar. However, so far, no agreement has been reached. With the sport only gaining more interest from other countries to host a race, a South African GP might find it difficult to find a place in F1 again.

As it stands, Formula 1 will have its longest calendar next season with a staggering 24 races. However, the sport has focused on new street circuits in recent years including two street tracks in the US. Countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia have also joined the calendar courtesy of the immense financial resources of the host nations. As such, Lewis Hamilton might have to wait for F1 to race in Africa again.
