Top-down, Lewis Hamilton is the most successful Formula 1 driver of all time. He has the joint-most championship wins, with 7, the most wins, and the most pole positions. He also came within touching distance of taking the championship wins record to himself. Still, even if he does not win any more championships or even races, he will still be remembered as one of the greatest to ever do it. Like him, Tom Brady and Serena Williams have a similar stature in their respective sports.
It is due to this shared experience, as (one of) their sport’s most successful people, Hamilton is friends with both of them. He met Brady met at an IWC event in Miami last year, around the time of the Miami Grand Prix. The pair even played golf together! As for Williams, the pair have quite a special friendship, and have showered compliments, and hyped each other up, on many occasions.
Speaking about his friendship with Brady with People, the Mercedes driver said: “We were actually messaging this morning. He’s so incredibly supportive and we support each other. For someone that was so inspirational within his sport, very impactful, great team leader, there’s so much to learn from him and take from him.” Brady has won the Super Bowl seven times, been the Super Bowl MVP five times, and the NFL MVP three times!
As for his shared experiences with Brady and Williams, as sportspersons who’ve been at the top, he said: “It can be quite a lonely experience being at the top of your sport. So, to be able to confide in other individuals who have experienced something similar.” Not every sportsperson is as successful as this trio, and as such, their experiences are very unique.
Lewis Hamilton discusses his relationship with Serena Williams
Serena Williams is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She has won 23 Grand Slam titles, which is the most of any women’s tennis player in the open area. Lewis Hamilton is also immensely successful. And as such, the pair talk a lot about the ‘struggles of success’. He said: “Serena and I — we talk a lot about sports and competition, and when we talk to each other about the struggles or the successes, only us in our little bubble can understand.”
The seven-time F1 world champion further explained his friendship with Williams: “When you’re talking to Serena, you’re like — yeah, I know Williams, I know what you’re talking about. So, it’s pretty unique and a privilege to have those conversations.”
As the Miami GP weekend approaches, Hamilton’s full focus will be on his goals for the season with Mercedes. It seems the championship has run away now, but there’s still the possibility of competing for race wins. It looks unlikely that he’ll be doing that this weekend in Miami, but anything is possible. The Silver Arrows will be introducing major upgrades in Imola, so perhaps it’s best Mercedes fans look forward to that race instead.
