Lewis Hamilton‘s future has been a topic of discussion in the F1 paddock for some time now. The British driver was previously rumored to join Ferrari, but the 38-year-old declared his willingness to stay at Brackley. It is believed that the extension is in its final stages. F1 presenter David Croft believes that Hamilton and Mercedes could announce the new contract as early as the British GP.
Crofty explained that both parties are eager to continue their journey together that started 11 seasons ago. Lewis Hamilton joined the Silver Arrows in 2013, and since then, this pairing has achieved historic success in Formula 1. Subsequently, David stated, “The devil is in the detail. Lewis wants to stay at Mercedes. Mercedes want to stay with him. It will get done”.
The 53-year-old insisted that many things must be sorted to get the new deal through. However, David Croft was convinced that the British GP could serve as the ideal weekend or the announcement. The Silverstone weekend is the home race for Hamilton, while the Mercedes F1 team is based out of the English town of Brackley. He said, “It wouldn’t surprise me if it gets done at Silverstone, that would be a logical thing.”

Lewis Hamilton contract extension not about money, claims David Croft
It was rumored that Hamilton had demanded a staggering $320 Million contract extension from Mercedes. This would help the 7-time champion reclaim his spot as the top earner in F1 from Max Verstappen. However, David insisted that this was not about money. The F1 presenter believes that the Briton is seeking Mercedes’s commitment to his projects outside F1.
Lewis established The Hamilton Commission, which promotes inclusivity and representation of black people in UK motorsport. Additionally, the 38-year-old also runs Mission 44 as a charitable foundation to transform the lives of young individuals from underrepresented communities. Subsequently, the 7-time world champion would be looking for more focus on such endeavors.
Thus, Lewis Hamilton seems set on finally securing a contract extension with Mercedes. The Briton has won 6 world championships with the Silver Arrows and would be eager to achieve more success. At the same time, the Brackley-based team is willing to retain its star driver. However, it remains to be seen if Hamilton has news to share with his home fans in Silverstone.
