Charles Leclerc came fifth at the recently concluded Canadian Grand Prix and for his efforts was elected as the “Driver of the day.” However, according to former Dutch racing driver Tom Coronel, the Monegasques’ effort in Montreal was not very special.

Charles Leclerc started from the back of the grid in Montreal after taking a new power unit and was able to get up to P5. After the race, Leclerc sounded a bit disappointed and said, “The last part was nice but obviously the very first part I was stuck in a DRS train and I could not do anything.”

Coronel believes that Leclerc should have been able to finish a bit further up the grid given the car that he was driving and thus does not agree with him being given the Driver of the day.

According to Coronel, there was one other driver who impressed him the most and it was none other than former 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis started the Canadian GP from P4 and was able to score his second podium of the season by finishing P3 behind Sainz and Verstappen.

Hamilton after the race said, “Obviously it’s different to a win but I think it feels as good as that in a sense, I’ve had a fourth and a third and a bit of consistency is coming back finally, so I’m definitely grateful and I know we can do better and I can do more.”

You saw him really fight the car. I think that’s cool to see. You need a Formula 1 car move. You see that with Lewis.”

Of course, he got out like a complaining old man in Baku, but he came out of the car so fit, fierce and young. I think that’s cool to see.”

But Leclerc? Come on. Fifth from the back. With that car, he should have been third after Perez’s retirement. Done. He should have been further forward.”
