Williams is currently experiencing one of their best streak of performances since 2020. They have overcome consecutive setbacks in the later seasons that made the legendary team one of the backmarkers. However, all eyes are on the American rookie driver, Logan Sargent, as his contract with the team expires at the end of this season. Sargent has expressed his determination to secure an extension with Williams.
Logan Sargeant debuted in Formula 1 this season with Williams following his impressive fourth-place finish in the 2022 Formula 2 series. His debut marked a substantial shift in the team as he replaced the Canadian driver, Nicolas Latifi. Despite showing potential, Sargeant is yet to secure any points in the 2023 Formula One season, while his teammate, Alex Albon, has clinched a total of 21 points.
During the Dutch Grand Prix, Logan Sargeant had a great start by securing the 10th position in qualifying. Sargeant was the first American to qualify in the top 10 since Michael Andretti at the 1993 Italian Grand Prix. However, his race took a disappointing turn as he crashed during the race due to mechanical malfunctions with his car, which restricted him from gaining his first points of the season.
As the Formula 1 season draws closer, Logan Sargeant expressed his strong desire to continue his journey with Williams after his current contract expires by the end of this season. “I hope so…I’m definitely working hard on and off the track to make something happen…From my side, I’ve seen a lot of good throughout the European leg of the season – a lot of progress….I won’t be far from where I need to be. So we’ll see,” said Logan Sargent, as reported by racefans.net

Joe Saward acknowledged that Williams has no plans to replace Logan Sargent
During the Italian Grand Prix, Logan Sargeant secured a 13th-place finish, close to his best race result of 11th. In contrast, his teammate, Alex Albon, had an impressive performance, finishing in 7th place and securing 6 points during the weekend.
However, Logan Sargeant is among the few drivers who haven’t scored any points this season. F1 journalist Joe Saward acknowledged that the team might opt to extend his contract for another season, recognizing the potential for improvement.
Despite Logan Sargeant’s sub-par performances this season falling below expectations compared to his teammate, Alex Albon, Joe Saward indicated that Williams is likely to keep their rookie driver for the 2024 season.
In his latest blog, Green Notebook From The Borromean Islands, Saward expressed that “Williams may not have announced it yet but the team has no plans to replace Logan Sargeant”
