Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon hailed as classic teacher-student dynamic

Luca De Meo, CEO of Renault has his say on the pressure the two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso might have on young Estaban Ocon. After the departure of Daniel Ricciardo in 2021, we saw the return of Fernando Alonso beside young Esteban Ocon.

People’s opinions over the new team were clear suggesting the amount of constraining the French driver will have beside him competing with the Spaniard. De Meo termed the duo a teacher-student dual with hopes of the French driver learning a lot from the Spaniard.

Last year, Esteban saw the collaboration with Alonso as a great opportunity. A classic teacher-student dynamic, an exchange of information that continues.

Luca De Meo believes “We have a better-structured organisation”

Ahead of the 2022 season, Alpine could easily be a Podium Contender given the Grid position their cars have achieved in the first four races. But what concerns them for the while are the reliability issues marking them a 6th position in the Constructor Championship with just 22 points and this even got noticed in the eyes of De Meo.

But what gives them hope is the team structure and replacement which are pre-planned to achieve a better result in 2023 they believe.

There are more resources for development during the season and we have a better-structured organisation, We have put in or moved around important figures like [Matt] Harman, [Otmar] Szafnauer, [Bruno] Famin, Pat Fry. I thought it would take a year to get the deck in order. We weren’t messing around, we always had a plan – to set up a homogeneous team. That was probably what we lacked in the beginning. The label of third-place contenders is stuck on us from the outside.” reported Luca De Meo to Corriere dello Sport
