Mark Webber gives his honest verdict on the first half of Oscar Piastri’s rookie F1 season

Oscar Piastri has taken the F1 world by storm recently, and several teams are interested in his services. While Piastri is in his rookie season at the pinnacle of motor racing, Ex-F1 driver turned manager Mark Webber has showered a lot of praise on him for everything that he has managed so far in McLaren’s MCL60.
Oscar Piastri has got the sensational Lando Norris as his teammate during the ongoing campaign, and it’s not easy to go up against the Brit. Daniel Ricciardo found that out during his painful tenure with the team, but when it comes to the former F3 and F2 winners, he has shown himself well against Norris.
Webber is very pleased with how the exploits of the 22-year-old, and while talking about him recently, he told Formula 1, “I think it’s been an extraordinary few weeks for the whole team. The bar has been accelerated to a very high level, very fast within the group – we shouldn’t be shy about that.”
“I think it’s still so easy to forget that Oscar didn’t race last year. I think the start of the year does take time. It’s his first time in F1, it’s not like he’s returning from a break… He’s been away for 15 months and has never raced in F1. Lando Norris has been exceptional; he’s top drawer, we know that, and Oscar has just held himself in such… Of course, we’re all very proud of him,” he added.
Oscar Piastri has a bright future ahead of him
Oscar Piastri has so far competed in only 12 F1 Grand Prix but has already started showing the kind the immense talent he has got in him. He starred in the last few races before the summer break and that has made him a highly sort after driver in the sport. Several of the top F1 teams have shown their interest in him recently.
However, considering that he is already at a good team like McLaren that has huge growth potential, he could be all set for the upcoming years of the pinnacle of motor racing. The papaya-colored team has undoubtedly got the most exciting driver line-up and if they are able to come up with potent machinery in the upcoming years, then Piastri and Co. would definitely bring a lot of success to the team.
Oscar Piastri is a young prodigy and considering that he has started showing signs of being a World-class driver already, the future looks extremely bright for the Australian driver. Several eyes will be on him during the second leg of the 2023 season because of what he managed before the ongoing summer break.
