The renowned commentator of Formula 1, Martin Brundle, believes that Sergio Perez’s Red Bull seat will not see a new successor in the near future. Perez has faced multiple difficulties in 2023, especially in the second half of the season. After his two Grand Prix wins in the opening few rounds of the 2023 season, the Mexican driver went through a massive dip in his form, only managing to claim 3 podium finishes post the summer break. This ‘dip’ in his form added flames to the discussions about Red Bull scouting an immediate replacement for Perez in 2024.

Brundle, however, claimed that Red Bull, themselves seem keen to continue their partnership with the 33-year-old driver. Following Perez’s stunning P4 finish at the Sao Paolo Grand Prix, Brundle, during the usual post-race analysis, commented on rumors about Perez’s immediate future. Brundle talked about this, as reported by  f1ingenerale.

I assure you that it is not a question of coming second. I spoke to team sources, I was told categorically: Perez has a seat for next year, there is no doubt about it.

Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez’s Battle for P2 just tilted in the favour of the Mexican driver

Hamilton is currently locked in a battle against Red Bull’s Sergio Perez for the P2 spot in the Driver’s standing. After Perez won 6 points compared to Hamilton’s 2 in the Sprint, the gap between the two drivers remained to be only 24 points ahead of Sunday’s Grand Prix. Hamilton started the Grand Prix from P5 while Perez started from P9. Hamilton has been catching up to Perez’s P2 spot in the recent few races.

However, The Red Bull driver outperformed the Briton as he took P4 across the chequered flag while Hamilton only managed a P8. This meant that Sergio Perez departed Interlagos with a 32-point lead over Lewis Hamilton. The British drivers stood a great chance of closing down the points gap to Perez at the Brazilian Grand Prix but ultimately fell prey to Perez’s blistering pace at the circuit. The sheer speed difference between the Red Bull and the Mercedes was on full display at the Sprint Race, and it proved to be the obstacle between Hamilton’s goals once the lights went out at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Hamilton had recently revealed that he is more focused on claiming a P2 finish for Mercedes in the Constructor’s Championship over his fight against Perez for the ‘bridesmaid’ position in the driver’s standings. Even Hamilton had expressed how his battle against Perez depends on the Red Bull Driver’s ability to maximize his performance in the Title-winning car. With only two Grands Prix to go, it will be interesting to see who comes out of top at the end of the season.
