Mattia Binotto insists there are ‘no problems’ at Ferrari: “Disappointed to read such rumours”

Carlos Sainz won his first race in Formula 1 from pole position, at the 150th time of asking. The first victory is a joyous occasion for any team and driver, and it came at a time when Ferrari desperately needed it, when Red Bull were running riot, having won every race since Imola.
But there were certain aspects of the victory that would have soured the occasion for some Ferrari fans: The team made another strategic decision that likely compromised Charles Leclerc’s race, as they kept him out during the safety car. When the safety car went in, Leclerc was the only driver in the front with hard tires, with everyone around him on new soft tires.
Hard as he tried, eventually Charles Leclerc was relegated to the 4th spot, and many fans and experts felt that the decision was questionable. There were even reports of an internal divide among the two sides of the garage, as reported by Alberto Antonini, who formerly worked at Ferrari as a press officer. Leclerc outright denied these rumours, instead saying there were logistical reasons for some Ferrari staff not attending Carlos Sainz’s podium ceremony.
Mattia Binotto says that the team was ‘very happy’ for Carlos Sainz
As reported by NextGen-Auto, Mattia Binotto clearly denied that there are any problems or divides at Ferrari in a press conference. He said: “It wasn’t true. When I heard or read it, I was surprised. What I did was check it out, because you never know, maybe there’s something that bugged me. escaped. But I checked and it wasn’t the case at all.”
Mattia Binotto said that it was ‘disappointing’ to read things like these, as they do not represent the truth: “I am surprised and once again disappointed to read that sometimes there are things that are written that do not correctly say what happened.” but he did concur that the team was a little disappointed at Charles Leclerc’s situation in Silverstone: “Yes, the team was not fully, fully happy at this moment because we lost an opportunity after the safety car.”
Binotto added: “But I’m very happy for Carlos, who won his very first race, at Silverstone he had a fantastic weekend starting from pole and then the race itself. The whole team was there to cheer Carlos on. So, no problems.”
Recently, Mattia Binotto and Charles Leclerc had dinner in Monaco, presumably to explain himself after the ‘disaster’ in Silverstone. He said: “We had dinner, we laughed together at what we read in the newspapers because we knew that was completely wrong.” adding that the two discussed constructively what Ferrari can do for the strongest possible performance in the upcoming races.
