“Max and Red Bull are pulling away now,” Carlos Sainz puts blame on Ferrari for squandering advantage at Dutch GP

Carlos Sainz finished a P5 at the Dutch GP but only got 4 points to his name. Sainz had a very dramatic Dutch GP after having contact with another driver, serving a penalty and a messed-up pit stop. Sainz was in despair, losing out to the top drivers after fighting his way back to the top. Though he had a working strategy for a possible podium but lost out to a bunch of points instead.

Carlos Sainz’s Dutch GP summarises Ferrari’s 2022 season. Carlos probably had one of his most chaotic races. Started his race by having a minor collision with Lewis Hamilton at the start of the race. He anyhow managed to stick up with his third position, comfortably running behind Charles Leclerc but with Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez chasing him to grab that podium. He anyhow had a plan to run a race from third after trying to undercut the chasers. But Ferrari pit stop had some other plans.

Ferrari’s operational team ruined Carlos’ pit giving up a year-long stop of 12 seconds. The red garage only had three tyres out for the change and got delayed for the fourth one. This completely ruined Sainz’s chances for the podium. He anyhow did recover from the back to get himself back in the top 5.

“Everything that could happen happened, and we were just, I think, at the wrong spot at the wrong time continually, and it was -yeah – a really bad day. It was clearly maybe a bit too late [the call to make his first stop], but we need to keep analysing these cases, keep improving as a team because we keep costing ourselves some points, and we need to see why,” said Carlos.

Ferrari has completely lost all its control over the championship after winning out in the first three races of the season. Ferrari started their season with a banger but things went downhill from the race after Imola and they haven’t really recovered after since.

Carlos Sainz has lost his hopes over this year’s Championship. “We need to keep improving these sort of things, especially for next year because it definitely looks like Max and Red Bull are pulling away now, and if we want to have a shot year, we need to keep improving these things and make the mistakes this year to get them better,” said Carlos.

After Max Verstappen’s win at his home, Red Bull is now 134 points over Ferrari with Max with 100 points over Charles and Sergio. Carlos is currently below George Russell in the championship table.
