Max Verstappen has had one of the most remarkable careers, and few can challenge his headstrong nature. The job of keeping Max in check, therefore, lies with Gianpiero Lambiase, known better as GP. GP is Verstappen’s race engineer, responsible for keeping the World Champion informed about the race at all times.

GP must also ensure Verstappen drives the Grand Prix as per the strategy and doesn’t push too much or too little. The Dutchman joked on the Talking Bull podcast that the two of them see each other more than they did their significant others, saying they had a very intense relationship.

Verstappen has been in a relationship with Kelly Piquet since 2020. Kelly Piquet is the daughter of the controversial figure Nelson Piquet Sr, a 3x world champion who was banned from the F1 paddock for racist comments.

GP considers Max Verstappen a “little brother”

GP and Verstappen have had numerous altercations throughout Verstappen’s career. The Red Bull champion usually heeds the words of the GP, understanding that following them would be in the best interest of the team.

GP elaborated on their bond on the Talking Bull podcast with Max Verstappen after the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. He said that he considered the Dutchman a “little brother.”

Verstappen and GP have had many disagreements since Max joined F1. Some notable incidents are the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, where Verstappen refused to let Sergio Perez buy as revenge for a previous incident, and the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix. Verstappen wanted the fastest lap point and went for it even though GP told him not to risk losing the car on a fast lap.
