The Christian Horner investigation saga caused a stir at Red Bull. Multiple top spots were rumored to exit the team following the entire fiasco. However, Horner was proven innocent and this put an end to the case. Regardless, multiple teams have reportedly tried to acquire the aero-genius Adrian Newey under their team. Now, Max Verstappen has broken the silence over the entire debacle.
Adrian Newey was rumored to be demoted to a non-F1 role in Red Bull following Christian Horner‘s investigation. Additionally, Newey was also offered to join Ferrari and ‘big money contracts’ from Aston Martin. However, the 65-year-old reassured his commitment to Milton Keynes.
Max Verstappen reckoned that Newey had changed his role within Red Bull over the years. However, the 26-year-old didn’t hesitate to mention that everyone held an important role in the team and it was necessary to keep everyone united.
Adrian, over the years, has changed his role at Red Bull slightly, but everyone plays a very important role in the successes we have. Of course I can stress that everyone must remain united within the teamMax Verstappen told it.motorsport.com.
Anyhow, if Newey decided to leave the team, there wasn’t much the reigning world champion could do to prevent it. Max Verstappen declared that the two had no conversation regarding the entire matter. Apart from this, the 26-year-old had no interest in discussing the situation and didn’t want to read the stories regarding the same.
But if someone wants to leave, you can't always prevent it. I haven't spoken to Adrian about it, to be honest, nor do I know what's going on. I don't deal with these things either. And then I don't want to read all these stories.Max Verstappen noted.
Max Verstappen fears Adrian Newey would take a ‘lot of knowledge’ to a different team
Adrian Newey is a highly capable individual, who has helped Red Bull achieve historic success. Verstappen reckoned that a lot of people worked behind creating a capable car at Milton Keynes and not only Newey. Nevertheless, the Dutchman reassured that he would have the Briton continue with Red Bull instead of a rival squad.
There are many people who make our car fast, but ultimately I would like Adrian to stay with the team, rather than leave to another team.Max Verstappen announced.
However, in the event of Newey leaving the team, multiple issues could arise in Red Bull. Max Verstappen asserted that the 65-year-old would take a lot of knowledge to a different team. Hence, Newey’s brilliance could allow a team like Ferrari to potentially out-develop Red Bull.
Of course, if he were to leave, he would take a lot of knowledge with him. Especially when it comes to single-seaters ground effect.
Max Verstappen added.
Adrian Newey is unlikely to leave Milton Keynes at the moment. The 65-year-old has been at the team since its early years. Red Bull continues to perform during the 2024 season, with the quick RB20. Certainly, Newey would be hoping to see his designs win more races in F1 with Max Verstappen behind the wheel in the coming years.
