Max Verstappen reveals if he prefers to return to the Formula 1 paddock after his racing career
Max Verstappen intends to focus on other things than racing after his Formula 1 career.
Max Verstappen is the reigning world champion. As such, he is already one of the most integral parts of the Formula 1 grid right now. One can say that he is the foremost of the ‘new guard’ replacing the perhaps outgoing old guard, such as Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, at the top of the sport.
In this, he is perhaps joined by names such as Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and George Russell. But there is no argument that currently, Verstappen is the best racing driver among them. He is: the youngest Formula 1 driver to start a race, the youngest driver to score points, the youngest driver to score a podium finish, and the youngest driver to record a race victory.
Verstappen’s current deal with Red Bull takes him to at least 2028 in the Formula 1 paddock. After that, it is possible that he will extend his deal and stay in Formula 1, whether with Red Bull or with any other team. But once his Formula 1 career is over, the Dutchman does not have plans to stay in Motorsport as a TV analyst or even in a team role.
Max Verstappen: “I don’t have the motivation for that”
In an interview with the Dutch Formule1 Magazine, Verstappen made it clear that he has no plan to return to the Formula 1 paddock after his career is over.
“You will not see me again as an analyst or in a team role. Not really.”
Instead, Verstappen emphasized that there are other things to enjoy in life than racing, such as spending time with one’s family. And he intends to do that.
“I don’t have the motivation for that. When I don’t drive anymore, I want to do other fun things.”
After his years in the Formula 1 world are over, Verstappen intends to step away from all of it for a while. His father, Jos agreed, saying that:
“Your whole life now revolves around racing. Formula 1 and you name it. Now it’s a must, in a way. At a certain point, you are done with that.”
Verstappen also pointed an example towards his father, who now competes in rallies. He wants to stay more low-key in the Motorsport world after his Formula 1 career. On the subject of rallies, Verstappen said:
“The problem is: when I participate in something, I really want to win. But I know I never had that experience, didn’t grow up rallying.”
Max Verstappen is currently leading the championship by 9 points from Charles Leclerc. Going into the next round in Baku, Verstappen would consider the race as unfinished business. Last year, he had a tire failure on the straight while in the lead, just a few laps away from the chequered flag.
