Max Verstappen does not rule out a future Mercedes or Ferrari move: “I still have the option to continue or not”

Max Verstappen has stated that he feels “really good” at Red Bull, but has not governed out a transfer to Ferrari or Mercedes when his multi-year deal ends.
The reigning F1 world champion signed a seven-year contract extension with Red Bull, keeping him bound to the Austria-based racing team until the end of the 2028 season but Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko did acknowledge there is a quality release clause in his contract, should Red Bull fall backwards down the hierarchical order.
But, considering that he is now only 24, the Dutchman believes he has a long future ahead of him once his contract with Red Bull expires, but he does not rule out a prospect with Mercedes or Ferrari.

“I feel really good in the team. There is no reason to leave the team. We get along well and we have a competitive package. At the end of the contract I will only be 31 years old. Then I still have the option to continue or not. I’m still not old at the end of the contract,” said the reigning F1 world champion in an interview ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.
Verstappen is catching up to Charles Leclerc at the pinnacle of the Drivers’ Championship leaderboard this season, with victories at Imola and Miami reducing the gap to 19 points. Following the amplitude of his season-long joust with Lewis Hamilton last season, he expressed how much he is savouring the tussle at the front with his former karting rival Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
“Of course, every driver is a bit different [in their approach]. Different in how he defends and how he attacks. So of course you approach every driver a little bit differently. It’s really cool. Two young drivers fighting for race wins. So far we’ve had really good duels,” added Verstappen. The Spanish Grand Prix would prove to be extremely crucial for the Ferrari and Red Bull driver at the top to determine the title race ahead.
