Max Verstappen indirectly blames Jos Verstappen for ending his mother Sophie Kumpen’s racing career

Max Verstappen has been an F1 virtuoso because of his racing mindset and partly due to his family background. The Dutchman’s family is filled with motorsport enthusiasts, with his father Jos Verstappen having previously competed in Formula 1. His mother, Sophie Kumpen, has also participated in multiple forms of motorsport.

However, Jos Verstappen was very hard on the Dutchman during his early days of racing. Regardless, of the father-son shenanigans on the grid, both share a very deep bond with each other on and off the grid. Additionally, Verstappen Sr. had previously insisted that the reigning world champion has a resemblance to her mother’s racing style in Formula 1.

Nonetheless, the 26-year-old had slyly remarked on his mother’s racing career, who Red Bull boss Christian Horner re-called being a very good racer. However, he was cut short by Verstappen who remarked that she married his father Jos Verstappen, hinting he might have played a role in her career ending prematurely.

Jos Verstappen was hard while raising Max Verstappen

Jos Verstappen is a different person as compared to other fathers present on the grid. Multiple people around the grid used to claim that Jos was hard on his son and that it was wrong. However, the father was not hesitant in accepting his ways of raising his son, although it was hard on him. The 51-year-old further explained that he does not like to open up about these kinds of topics while in public.

Additionally, Verstappen’s father insisted that it was very difficult to understand what it took to reach at the pinnacle of motorsport like Max Verstappen. The Dutchman was not hesitant in renouncing the fact that he never ‘abused’ his son despite being very hard on him. However, as depicted from the duo’s bond on the grid, fans believe that the two are on great terms now and share a deep sense of respect for each other.

Although Verstappen’s comments about his mother’s career aren’t something to let go. Considering that the world champion was not joking about the career, Kumpen needs to seriously be provided with a fair opportunity in her racing career to also score something great about herself. On the other hand, Jos’ ways of raising his child, despite hard, were definitely effective as the 26-year-old is making wonders in his career.
