The Australian Grand Prix saw three-time World Champion Max Verstappen retire due to reliability issues with his Red Bull RB20. It is the first time since his DNF at Albert Park itself back in 2022. The driver seemed to be pretty disappointed after the DNF but spoke about how he aims to bounce back in Japan in a few weeks’ time.
Max Verstappen is proud of his team for the overall reliability they’ve shown for the last few years. He seemed to be very excited to get things running again and win the Japanese Grand Prix. The Dutchman seemed to be teething at the possibility of getting an opportunity to resume his and Red Bull’s dominance back the fast-paced track.
It excites me, in a way, because I would like to win. Of course, we had a lot of good races in a row, a lot of good reliability and I knew that the day would come that you end up having a retirement and, unfortunately, that day was today.Max Verstappen said.

Helmut Marko gives unexpected verdict on Max Verstappen’s DNF
Three-time World Champion Max Verstappen’s early retirement from the race in Melbourne seemed to be a massive shock for everyone at Red Bull. When Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko was asked about his thoughts on the DNF he had a very different opinion.
He spoke about how Verstappen’s DNF was something unexpected but good, as the team will work even harder to improve ahead of the race in Japan in a few weeks. Marko also spoke about how it must’ve been entertaining for fans to see someone else other than the dominant Dutchman win.
A day like this is unfortunately also part of racing. Everyone finds it boring when Red Bull wins, so we delivered for all those people. But not on purpose! Everyone kept asking me if Max can win all the races this year, at least that's over now.Helmut Marko said.
The Austrian seemed to take Verstappen’s shock DNF in more of a positive way in comparison to other team members. He seemed to be in good spirits and also spoke about how he thinks the retirement was only a one-time thing for Red Bull.
