Defending Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen finds himself in the middle of a thrilling competition to win the world championship for the second time in two seasons. The fight he faced versus Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton last year was finally resolved in his favour on the very last lap of the last race. However, this year’s rivals for the newly crowned champion are Ferrari and Charles Leclerc.
While the first half of the season has progressed under the guise of courtesy and chivalry, the second half of the season has been in many respects “poison,” with multiple incidents on the racetrack between Verstappen and Hamilton and even more animosity off the circuit between Red Bull and Mercedes. In fact, Leclerc and the Dutchman frequently found themselves at odds with one another without ever getting into an accident.
Max Verstappen becomes candid on his relationship with Mattia Binotto
Max Verstappen examined the distinctions between these two various encounters and was able to identify which one he preferred with ease. “With Hamilton battle between different generations? Surely. But I prefer what we have now. I know Charles very well. He is a good boy , we are of a similar age – I think we are only three weeks apart – and we are fighting against a very respected competitor: Ferrari,” said Verstappen.
Verstappen had previously engaged in pretty abrasive conflicts with the entire Maranello atmosphere. Consider his charges in Austin 2019, when he said Ferrari had dropped out of the race because “they had stopped cheating,” or his post-accident comments in Singapore in 2017.
“With some people on the team [I have a good relationship]. Even Mattia, I have an excellent relationship with him. Also last Saturday night we also had a laugh together with Paul Ricard,” said Verstappen on his relationship with the Ferrari team principal.
