The reigning World Champion Max Verstappen stands a chance to equal the record of ‘9 consecutive wins in Formula 1’ this weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix. The record currently resides with Sebastian Vettel and has done for almost a decade. The current Red Bull driver mentioned the former Red Bull star as he chases his 11th win of the season and with it, the fabled record.

After qualifying on pole by over five tenths on Lando Norris, who qualified at a stunning P2, Max Verstappen looks comfortably set to equal Vettel’s record come race day. The Dutch driver shared how Vettel shared a few words of support and encouragement in an interview after qualifying. He said, “I think after like five wins in a row or something like that, Seb texted me, you know ‘well done, what you’re doing at the moment, keep it up’ and something like ‘you’re going to do it’.

But, with Norris hot on Verstappen’s tail, the papaya squad racer stands a chance of thwarting Max’s brilliance, a sight albeit becoming a rarity. Norris said about Verstappen making a mistake, “It happens to everyone and it can still happen to him. So there’s a time and a place and we’re kind of still waiting, everyone’s waiting for it to happen, but just not today.
