The Friday Free Practice sessions during the Japanese Grand Prix weekend were very disrupted, with a red flag coming out in FP1 due to Logan Sargeant‘s crash. Later on, FP2 was also a massive disappointment for drivers due to the continuously changing weather conditions.
The majority of the drivers didn’t have any running during FP2 and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was also one of them. Following the end of the session, the Dutchman spoke about how he was satisfied with his RB20 despite not obtaining any data during FP2.
Max Verstappen took the time to dwell on his outing after the FP sessions.
We couldn’t do anything in the second free practice session, but there are still a few things we have to look at and try out. But in general, I am quite satisfied with the first session.
Max Verstappen said in an interview with racingnews365
The 26-year-old is calm and feels his car was in a pretty good operating window during FP1 running. The Dutchman is fully geared up for qualifying tomorrow and will do his best to obtain the top slot for Sunday’s 53-lap Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen shares his thoughts on Red Bull’s advantage in qualifying
After the Free Practice sessions were concluded on Friday, three-time World Champion, Max Verstappen shared his thoughts regarding tomorrow’s qualifying session. The Dutchman spoke about how he thinks qualifying can be a bit tricky for Red Bull.
He cited how some of the top teams have closed the gap to his team. The driver feels that generally over one lap, the other teams and drivers have gotten closer to the Austrian outfit, making qualifying a tricky session to get on top of.
It seems like everyone is a little closer together compared to last year. I think in general over one lap, it seems like people have got closer, but for the long run pace, I have no idea, but I don’t expect gaps like there were last year here.
Max Verstappen said in the same interview
Verstappen had a disappointing outing during the Australian GP and thus, he is fully determined to put in a sensational show during the ongoing race weekend. Tomorrow’s qualifying could spring up a few surprises as rain could play spoil-sport in Red Bull’s plans.
