The Austrian Grand Prix is held at the Red Bull Ring, owned by the Austrian energy drinks company. In 2004, Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz bought Jaguar F1 and rebranded it as Red Bull Racing. Mateschitz also acquired the A1 Circuit in Austria, renaming it the Red Bull Ring. Since then, the Austrian GP has been the home race for the Milton Keynes-based team.

In a Twitter video, Max Verstappen was reminded of a request he had made following the race. The interviewer mentioned a note that stated, “If you win here five times, we might rename this the Verstappen ring.” Verstappen began his victories in Austria in 2018; since then, he has secured wins in 2019. Twice in 2021 and most recently, adding up to five wins at the circuit.

After being reminded, Max quickly said, “Yeah, I need to talk to the bosses now. Let’s see, I’ll give them a call tomorrow, one by one.” Considering how dominant he has been this season and at this track, Dietrich Mateschitz might be hearing from him soon. While it was a joke, could the Red Bull owner agree?

After the initial four races of the season, it seemed likely that Red Bull teammates Verstappen and Sergio Perez would be contending for the championship title. However, after Perez’s form took a big hit, Max capitalized on the opportunity and is now 81 points in the lead of the drivers’ standings. The victory at the Austrian GP marked the Dutchman’s 5th consecutive victory in the 2023 season.

Max Verstappen has fulfilled Red Bull’s every demand this season. Whether it’s qualifying speed, fastest race laps, or securing victories, he has delivered without hesitation. At the Austrian GP, Red Bull’s home race, Verstappen secured their 101st win with 42 victories. Max also broke F1 legend Ayrton Senna’s win record at the Red Bull ring on Sunday.

Ferrari and Mercedes had difficulties last season that prevented them from being the best team. Ferrari was expected to perform well, but issues with reliability and communication caused them to fall far behind Red Bull. This has been a recurring pattern for Ferrari since their last championship win in 2008.
