Alex Albon, currently a Williams driver, served his term as a Red Bull main team driver in 2019 and 2020. During his time as a Red Bull driver, Albon was compared to his brilliant teammate and ‘soon-to-be-’ World Champion – Max Verstappen. The Thai-British driver commented on how it is to go against the Dutch driver ahead of the Mexican GP as he spoke about his term at Red Bull.
Reminiscing his time as Verstappen’s teammate, Alex Albon claimed Verstappen to be a ‘generational talent’ and labeled the reigning World Champion ‘one of the best drivers on the current grid’. Albon has talked about it as reported by Motorsportweek.
I think it’s always tough. I think it’s tough to go against one of the best drivers on the grid and call it a generational talent to some extent, so it wasn’t easy my year and I’m sure it wasn’t easy for Pierre in his year.
Albon also spoke about the mounting pressure on the current Red Bull driver – Sergio Perez. The Mexican driver took over Albon’s vacated seat at the end of the 2020 season and has been Verstappen’s teammate for 3 years now. Albon also commended the 33-year-old Mexican driver for holding his own against Verstappen.
Martin Brundle confirms Sergio Perez as Max Verstappen’s teammate for the immediate future
Formula 1 commentator Martin Brundle has offered insights into the future of Sergio Perez at Red Bull, debunking speculations about an urgent replacement for 2024. Despite the torrid results in the recent Grands Prix, including a performance slump after initial victories, Brundle disclosed that Red Bull is firmly committed to continuing their collaboration with the 33-year-old driver.
As reported by F1ingenerale, Brundle stated what he has gathered about Perez’s current situation at Red Bull.
Red Bull absolutely wants to keep running Perez next year, They will do everything to make that happen. There are a number of reasons why they don't intend to change.
Presently, Sergio Perez is slated to retain his seat for the 2024 season based on his existing contract. Brundle’s remarks, backed by insider information from the team, indicate that Red Bull is actively working to honor this very contract for the 2024 season, regardless of the outcome of the ongoing battle between the Mexican driver and Lewis Hamilton for the P2 position in the driver’s standings.
