McLaren claims Oscar Piastri was on course for a top-10 finish if it wasn’t for Lance Stroll’s crash

McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were behind Lance Stroll as he crashed in the dying moments of Q1. Stroll crashed his Aston Martin, quite spectacularly, bringing in a Red Flag and a subsequent end to the session. This meant Piastri couldn’t graduate to Q2. Mclaren’s team boss Andrea Stella claims Piastri would’ve ended up in the top 10 if Stroll’s crash didn’t impede his lap.
“We saw that in FP3 he was already quite competitive, he was P7 or thereabouts, with the old package,” explained Stella about Mclaren’s performance this weekend. “It means, like, it was on par with Lando. We were looking for another McLaren in Q3 today, in fairness.” The Rookie will start the Singapore Grand Prix from P17.
McLaren seem to have found incredible speed following the mid-season break. With Lando starting from Fourth on Sunday, the team will expect to have yet another successful weekend.

McLaren’s Singapore GP upgrade package for Lando Norris seems to have worked
McLaren brought an upgrade package for Lando Norris’ car this weekend. The front and rear-wings, sidepods, engine cover, and rear suspension all received updates.
This new package has gotten a ‘thumbs-up’ from Lando as he delivered a fantastic qualifying result. This weekend follows a pattern of McLaren consistently making progress after the mid-season break.
Lando Norris will line up in fourth position on Sunday and will look to exploit his McLaren’s new-found pace in the Night race. Suffice it to say, McLaren’s apparent climb following the mid-season break continues.
