McLaren’s Zak Brown takes a dig at rival teams, makes surprising comment on Andretti’s bid to enter F1

Formula 1 is an ever-evolving sport where rules and regulations see an upheaval with the start of every new season. Now, it has not been long since the FIA, the governing body of F1, announced that they are opening calls for new teams to come up to the table and take part in the elite races. And amongst all the potential teams that fans are excited to see in the Grands Prix in the upcoming seasons, one name has been going around everyone’s minds–the Andretti F1 team.

Andretti is already a big name in the IndyCar and Formula E series, but the ambition of the father-son duo of Mario Andretti and Michael Andretti have brought them to F1. Mario is an F1 World Champion, and he wants to see his team compete in the highest pinnacle of motorsports in the near future. But the existing teams have had a hard time adjusting to the rule about newcomers in F1. Even though the Andrettis have also landed an engine sponsorship from Cadillac, many of the team principals believe there is no room for new competitors in the sport.

But going against the tide, McLaren’s Zak Brown has claimed that he believes Andretti-Cadillac’s entry into F1 will be “healthy for the sport”. While nothing has been finalized yet, the FIA have said they will give their decision on whether they want to expand the F1 grid by the end of June, and chances are, Andretti-Cadillac will be ready to race in the Grands Prix by 2025.

As all the team principals are being asked to put forth their opinions on Andretti-Cadillac’s entry into the Formula 1 grid, Zak Brown was no exception. But the American had a surprising response which was unlike the ones his rival team leaders have given. He said, “I’d love to see the grid expand with the right terms and conditions. We know I’m a supporter of Michael and Cadillac and I think they’d be healthy for the sport. I’m probably in the minority in that thinking.

Simply submitting an application for the chance to introduce a new Formula 1 would cost $300,000, and most people expect around three to four teams to show interest. If the new entrants are given a chance by the FIA, then fans will be in for even more excitement and thrill in the upcoming seasons as the competition will be much steeper than what it is now.
