The Mercedes Formula 1 team has had a roller coaster ride during the 2023 F1 season. From facing extreme lows to getting their season somewhat back on track, it has been a tumultuous year for them, and ahead of this week’s Brazilian GP, its Chief Technical Officer, Mike Elliott, has resigned from the team.

Mike Elliott has been with the Brackley-based team since the start of the 2012 season of the pinnacle of motor racing. He has been pivotal in the success that the team has enjoyed since then, and after a tenure of 10-11 years, he has finally decided to move on from the team.

In his parting words, he has expressed tremendous gratitude towards the team, and while talking about the same, he told Sky Sports:

It has been one of the great privileges of my career to be part of this Mercedes team. During my time, I have seen it grow from a group of people pulling together to win races, then a first championship, to winning a record eight consecutive Constructors' Championships - and I am proud to have made my contribution to that journey.

Looking at the comments of the 49-year-old, it is quite clear that he will cherish his time with the Mercedes team for a long time. Moreover, has given a special mention to the eight consecutive constructors world championships that the team won during his time with them.

Mike Elliott hopes his recent work will help Mercedes deliver better results in the future

While Mike Elliott will no longer be seen sparkling his know-how in the F1 paddock, he has admitted that he played a crucial role in recent months in developing the technical plan for Mercedes for upcoming years. He said:

During the past six months, I have enjoyed developing the technical strategy that we hope can provide the foundations of the team's next cycle of success.

Mercedes’s main aim heading into the upcoming years of F1 is to have a real go at the world championship. Since 2021, the team has not been able to produce a title-worthy car with the lights of Toto Wolff, and Lewis Hamilton seems highly frustrated with the situation on past occasions.

The German outfit is one of the heavy hitters at the pinnacle of motor racing. They dominated their rivals quite comfortably during the turbo hybrid era and considering this, it is going to be fascinating to see what Mike Elliott and Co. conjured up before his recent departure from the team.
