The spoils for being the best team of the year have already gone to Red Bull. The Silver Arrows are fighting to be bridesmaids this season and their Strategy Chief comments how on Mercedes plan to do that.

“We also mustn’t lose sight of the fact that we are in a tight battle for P2 with Ferrari, and that position in the championship is really important to all of us.”, said Wait [on Mercedes’ youtube]. Wait claims Ferrari are their primary challenger for the P2 spot as the Silver Arrows lead the Scarlet team with only 20 points.

Wait added, “So, we have upgrades in the pipeline and will continue to be bringing them to the car.” Wait’s comments shows how Mercedes are focused on developing the W14 for the remainder of the season. With multiple Mercedes’ team members and even drivers focusing on the W15 for 2024, it’ll be interesting to see how close the Silver Arrows get, in 2023, to the dominating Bulls at the front.

Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes should copy McLaren in bid to defeat Red Bull in 2024

McLaren began this season, supposedly having one of the worst cars on the grid. Their main driver, Lando Norris, only managed to get P17 in the first couple of Grands Prix. The Woking Wonders, however, have turned their fortunes around this season. McLaren has been extremely competitive since the mid-summer break and now, Lewis Hamilton has requested Mercedes to take notes from the Orange team.

Lewis Hamilton commented on how Mercedes need to give their maximum to close the gap to Red Bull. The Mercedes driver said“The next six months have got to be the greatest six months of development that we’ve ever, ever had to close that gap. To be really banging on the door. He mentioned McLaren and their upgrades saying, “But the evidence is there at the McLarens and we can’t turn a blind eye to that. We’ve got to look at what they’ve done and go in that direction. That is the direction. But I truly believe my team can do it.”

Lewis appeared to struggle with the W14’s balance at Suzuka. Lando Norris, for a second weekend running, finished ahead of the Mercedes. As Red Bull wrapped the constructor’s title for the year, it will be interesting to see if the Silver Arrows are able to bridge the gap to the very top.
