Popular rapper/songwriter Machine Gun Kelly, or MGK, appeared at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday. Martin Brundle encountered MGK during his infamous grid walk before the race. An awkward conversation ensued, for which MGK received backlash on social media. MGK asked Brundle to repeat himself twice, attributing this to the loud engines of the F1 cars nearby.

MGK gave vague answers to Brundle, asking about his career, and had an awkward encounter as he asked Brundle to play the air guitar along with him. The American artist was slammed on social media, and the backlash was worsened by MGK leaving midway through the race. MGK responded to the backlash, criticizing Brundle for randomly interrupting him with an interview and the car engines too loud to hear anything.

My vibe is ‘the worst’, how? Because someone put a microphone in my face essentially forcing me to do a random interview when I was just trying to enjoy an event? Because car engines were so loud I couldn’t hear him? Please tell me more about why I’m the worst.
Brundle said, as reported by planetf1.com

Kelly went on Twitter (now X) to vent his frustrations, saying his anxiety caused him to be incapable of being in public. Martin Brundle, a former F1 driver, is a highly respected member of the Formula One community, and celebrities who act dismissive to Brundle are often the subject of adverse reactions on social media.

Martin Brundle recalls Megan Thee Stallion’s interview after an altercation with MGK

After the conversation with MGK that went awry, Martin Brundle recalled an interview with rapper Megan Thee Stallion a few years ago that was similarly unfortunate. Two years ago, Megan Thee Stallion’s bodyguards had ushered Brundle away from the celebrity.

After the rapper ignored Brundle, his questions unanswered, Megan Thee Stallion’s bodyguard said, “You can’t do that.” Brundle clapped back immediately, saying, “I can do that, because I did”. The Sky Sports presenter commented on a social media post of Megan Fox, Megan Thee Stallion, and MGK, recalling two of his interviews.

Finally, my claim to fame, I’ve met two of these three people. I do appreciate them taking some time out on the grid for our great sport. I hope they didn’t find me too weird.

Celebrities on the paddock are usually required to talk to interviewers, as Brundle told Cara Delevingne in a similar event. Brundle’s grid walks have been a staple of Formula One for years and continue to precede the Grand Prix weekends.
