Michael Schumacher? Sebastian Vettel? Tifosi chip in with their favourite Ferrari driver of all time

Ferrari Formula 1

Ferrari have had no shortage of incredible drivers throughout their history – Juan Manuel Fangio, Niki Lauda, Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen are among those. On the current grid, there are Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel (who drove for them) Zhou Guanyu, Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez (former academy drivers) who have formerly been associated with the team.

And then of course, there’s the current lineup – Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Despite the tribulations of this year, the two are still considered to be ‘WDC worthy’ and one of the best pairings on the grid. Fans absolutely adore the pair, and they too, seem to have a good relationship with each other.

Despite the great abundance of incredible drivers at Ferrari – not everyone ‘succeeds’ here. Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso all came to Ferrari with hopes of a championship. They are all considered all-time greats, but none of them won a championship with the Italians. But you don’t need to win a championship to make your mark in the team, or to be a fan-favourite.

Gilles Villeneuve, who Mattia Binotto compared Charles Leclerc with, drove 5 seasons with the Maranello team until his untimely and tragic death in 1982. While he did not win a championship despite coming very close in 1979, he earned widespread acclaim for his performances and the eternal love of the fans. Fans have not forgotten about the Canadian.

Of course, there’s Michael Schumacher, widely considered to be the (or one of the two) greatest Formula 1 driver of all time. There’s no doubt that his tenure at Ferrari was the most successful time for the Italians, as well as for him.

There’s also Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard came incredibly close to winning the championship twice, only to fall at the last hurdle. But all can agree that he took the Ferrari cars of that time to places where they did not belong. His performances in 2012 only further solidified his status as a legend of Formula 1.

Kimi Raikkonen, who won the last WDC for Ferrari, and was part of the team which won their last WCC, also got plenty of love from the fans So did Niki Lauda, who won two championships driving for the Scuderia in the mid 1970s.

While Sebastian Vettel never won a championship for the team, he still won the fans’ hearts. Everybody loves Vettel, even those who are not Ferrari fans.

And there was also plenty of love for the current pairing of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz as well.

Other drivers mentioned in the thread were Rubens Barrichello, Gerhard Berger, Felipe Massa, Carlos Reutemann and even Giancarlo Fisichella, who drove for one season with the Maranello team. Some responses also indicate they would like to see Max Verstappen at the team. The future of Ferrari with the drivers is in safe hands, all the team need to do is be on their A-game.
