Mick Schumacher’s future has been rather uncertain for a very long time. At the start of the year, the German driver struggled to keep up with his returning but more experienced teammate, Kevin Magnussen. While the Haas returnee impressed right in the first race, Schumacher’s wait for points went on.

That wait ended in Silverstone, the tenth race of the season. The German then finished an impressive sixth, both times finishing ahead of his teammate. In the past few races since that, he has also finished ahead of the Dane in quite a few races, but his seat was in danger nonetheless.

We’re now in October, and there is still no clarity on Schumacher’s future. Guenther Steiner’s very public interest in Daniel Ricciardo and reports about Nico Hulkenberg wouldn’t have helped his anxieties. But now, it finally seems that Haas are willing to enter into negotiations.

If the contract talks have not begun, Mick Schumacher is also said to be a person of interest to Williams, and some time ago, he was even linked to Alpine. Esteban Ocon outright stated that he wanted Mick as a teammate, but the move is rather far-fetched. As for Williams, it seems it’s likely Nyck de Vries and Logan Sargeant who are two candidates.

As per CRASH, Sky Germany reports that Haas had opened discussions for a new contract in Singapore. The race itself ended up being rather disappointing for the team, with the pair finishing 12 (Magnussen) and 13 (Schumacher). Kevin Magnussen had to dive into the pits early after (another) black-and-orange flag was shown to him.

Nico Hulkenberg is considered the prime choice for replacing Mick Schumacher, but there has not been a lot of news on that front lately. Daniel Ricciardo, on the other hand, is obviously the ‘premium option’ but his performances have been rather disappointing these past two seasons, and he comes with a hefty salary, which Haas may not be able to afford.

These next few races will be pivotal to Schumacher Jr’s future in Formula 1, and they might as well could be ‘make or break’. Expectations upon the Schumacher name are always going to be high, and young Mick is going to have to deliver to the best of his abilities.
