Mick Schumacher, the Mercedes reserve driver, will be seen taking his father, Michael Schumacher‘s 2011 W02 F1 car, for a spin at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Mick has been left on the sidelines this year after he departed from Haas F1 at the end of 2022, and the people at next month’s festival will see him complete runs on both the Saturday and Sunday of the three-day Goodwood event on 14-16 July.

The W02 car has a lot of history behind it as it was only the second car built by the Mercedes F1 team following its purchase of Brawn GP at the end of the 2009 season. The car was, back then, put through the wringer by Nico Rosberg and Mick’s dad, Michael Schumacher. The car was a regular point scorer but just did not have enough firepower to score podium finishes in 2011.

Mick Schumacher is excited about the opportunity, and while talking about it, he told Autosport, “It’s going to be spectacular to run in my dad’s 2011 car, the W02, even if it is only a short run. Just experiencing this generation of cars will be mega! Knowing that he raced this car makes it extra special, and there will be many emotions coming with it.”

I have been lucky enough to drive one of his Benetton cars and some of the Ferraris he raced, but this will be the first time behind the wheel of a Mercedes he drove. I am sure I will get out of it with a big smile on my face,” he added. Mick Schumacher just can’t wait for the arrival of this year’s festival of speed and driving his father’s Mercedes car at the event.

While Mick Schumacher has sounded ecstatic about the prospect of driving his father’s car at the festival of speed, his main goal still is to secure a racing seat in Formula 1. He is currently making his trade as a reserve driver for Mercedes but has made it known that he wants to make a racing return as soon as possible.

He is desperate to get back to racing at the pinnacle of motorsports and has been in regular contact with the F1 teams. Schumacher endured a tough two years at the Gunther Steiner-led Haas F1 team, but has now put behind him and feels he has learned a lot at Mercedes and has honed his skills.

However, despite the positivity that Mick Schumacher has been oozing recently, getting an F1 seat is easier said than done, considering the young talent that knocks on F1 doors each year. He is in a competitive environment this year, and having a big personality like Toto Wolff on his side might help him get an F1 seat in the upcoming years.
