After an impressive start to the season, Aston Martin secured an outstanding six podium finishes out of eight races. Unfortunately, recent performances have displayed a dip in form, raising concerns within the team. After being second-best behind Red Bull, the team lost its form. Nevertheless, the Belgium Grand Prix could mark a turning point for the Silverstone-based team after the summer break.
Mike Krack mentioned that he had been saying from the season’s start, they now had an opportunity to take a point. With ten times more points than the previous year at this stage, they held P3 in the championship. Krack emphasized rising expectations with results. He also acknowledged the importance of pushing for development and recognizing their significant achievements.
“After 11-12 races we have the opportunity to take a point, we have 10x more points than we had at this stage last time, we are P3 in the championship,” Motorsportweek quotes Krack. “So the expectations rise with the results. We have made big steps, and it is important to also zoom out and see what you have achieved”.

Fernando Alonso impressed with a strong performance, securing a fifth place at Spa-Francorchamps. He outperformed both George Russell and Lando Norris, despite Mercedes-AMG Petronas and McLaren being stronger recently. Lance Stroll also shone, scoring points in ninth place with an excellent one-stop strategy and impressive soft tire management.
In the same interview, Mike Krack acknowledged his previous remarks about anticipating challenging times despite a strong start with multiple podiums. He admitted that those difficult times arrived sooner than expected. Highlighting the competitiveness of Formula 1, Krack explained that when other teams focus on intense development, it leads to noticeable changes in the pecking order.
“I always said in the beginning of the year, when we had podium, I always said there would be more difficult times, and they came much quicker than we wanted them to come,” he said. “But this is the reality of Formula 1, it’s very competitive, and as soon as other people are developing very hard you see a change in pecking order.”
After the Belgium Grand Prix, Aston Martin moves onto the second half of the season with 196 points in the constructors’ championship. While Fernando Alonso has secured P3 in the drivers’ standings, albeit by one point, his teammate Lance Stroll trails in 9th place with 47 points.
