‘More than we expected in a budget cap situation’: Carlos Sainz questions Red Bull’s ‘incredibly fast’ car development

Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz raised his eyebrows when asked about the pace difference between Ferrari and Red Bull. The season started off perfectly for the Italian powerhouse, Ferrari, after a one-two finishes in Bahrain. They showed promising pace to beat Red Bull in the races ahead and did so but only in Australia. Things completely changed after Imola and Ferrari showed their real functioning in front of the world.

Carlos Sainz hasn’t had a season to be very cheerful about after a very dominating defeat to Max Verstappen in the driver’s championship. But he questioned the upgrades Red Bull managed to bring up a car that was out of everyone’s competition. They managed to get all the wins after the return of F1 from the summer break. Ferrari was the fastest car around the track before the car but that has arguably changed ever since and Sainz seems to be suspicious about it.

Carlos opened up on his thoughts about the overperforming Red Bull, “They have developed the car a lot, more than we expected that you could do in a budget cap situation. They have been developing just incredibly fast and fast-moving,” understands Sainz.

Ferrari hasn’t really found a way to counter the pace difference they have with the Bulls. But Carlos is optimistic about the upcoming season and hopes the car to do better on all tracks and perspectives. Ferrari lost out to Red Bull on tracks and laps with a good stretch on the straights. The straight-line speed deficit was concerning for the Bulls.

“We want to keep exploring that and keep improving our pace in those circumstances because it is where the points are made,” said Sainz.

Ferrari could very much lose the championship to Red Bull in Austin if the Bulls manage to score 25+ points.
