“My dad finally won a race”: F1 Twitter erupts after Max Verstappen and Christian Horner roasted Jos Verstappen
Christian Horner and Max Verstappen
A lot of Max Verstappen’s success over the years can be credited to his father, Jos Verstappen, who has been there with him through thick and thin. The Dutchman got into karting at a young age, which has helped him to be technically sound and fairly confident on the race track. Jos travelled with Max across Europe for him to able to feature in racing events and get a first hand experience of handling pressure.
The reigning world champion decided to honor his father’s contribution in his career and wore a special helmet which was similar to what Jos used to wear his racing career. Unfortunately, Jos Verstappen couldn’t be present for the first two days as he suffered from coronavirus. But, thankfully, he recovered to watch his son registered the tenth of his season on home soil.
Max Verstappen started from pole after nosing out Charles Leclerc on Saturday. It was imperative for Max to keep hold his position going into Turn 1, which he did. It was a chaotic race but Max held his nerve to win the Dutch GP. The Dutchman was absolutely delighted with the result and his post race chat with Christian Horner was a testament to that emotion.
Max Verstappen and Christian Horner take a cheeky dig at Jos Verstappen
Max Verstappen even took a cheeky dig at his father’s record in F1 with Christian Horner. The two were seen to be roasting Jos with Christian saying, “Great to see that helmet win a race as well. First time he has done that. Well done.”
Max replied, “My father finally won a race and I think you rating in GP by plus 2.”
Jokes apart, Max was pretty happy with the result. In the post race interview, he said, “It’s always special to win your home Grand Prix, it was already last year. This year I have to say I had to work for it even more. So yeah, an incredible weekend and really happy we got the Dutch Grand Prix.”
The Dutch had its share of hurdles for Max Verstappen to overcome and it can be safely said that Max impressively dealt with everything thrown at him. It could be a matter of time before he wins that 2nd world championship.
