Daniel Ricciardo during the recent driver’s press conference has stressed his potential Mercedes reserve driver role for next year and whether his F1 future is dependent on what Lewis Hamilton decides to do.
Moreover, the Australian has completely denied the rumors that have been swirling about him looking to get the Mercedes seat, in case, the Brit decides to quit and has indicated that his future does not depend on other drivers’ decisions.
Daniel Ricciardo has got three races left in his F1 career after getting his contract with the papaya-colored team cut short by one year, and there is a prevailing belief that he will be the Brackley-based team’s reserve driver for 2023.
While there are a lot of rumors surrounding the 33-year-old, at the moment, he has recently added, “My future is not relative to what others do.”
“Opportunities will arise when they do. But I’m not banking on anyone doing something so that I can [step in].”
“I want to take the time that is necessary, keep a little distance to the sport, to rebuild myself.“
“If something makes sense in 2024 I will come back with a vengeance, have some fun, and hopefully race at the front.”
Daniel Ricciardo’s take on Lewis Hamilton’s contract situation with Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton, ahead of the Mexican GP has indicated that he is looking to sign a multi-year deal with the Silver Arrows and has no plans of calling it quits anytime soon.
While the 37-year-old has made his stance clear on the upcoming years of the F1, Ricciardo while discussing Hamilton has also stressed that he wants him to continue for as long as possible.
“The truth is that I want him to stay in the sport.”
“He’s one of the greatest to ever do it.”
“Competing with him, going wheel-to-wheel with him, is awesome. I wish to do more of that in the future. That’s where it currently lies.”
Daniel Ricciardo has made it crystal clear that he sees himself racing at the pinnacle of motor racing in the future years of the sport, and feels that when he will get back after the end of the current campaign, he would again love to lock horns with the former 7-time F1 World Champion.
