“My last lap was great,” Lewis Hamilton content with decent qualifying performance at French GP

Lewis Hamilton did a mega job during today’s qualifying and after his outing has suggested that he is extremely ecstatic with what he was able to achieve in the W13.
Ferrari and Red Bull have proved out of reach of anybody this season and Lewis after securing P4 for tomorrow’s race was the best that he could have done, given, Carlos Sainz is starting from the back of the grid.
In the process, the 37-year-old was also able to beat his teammate George Russell who has on many occasions has got the better of Hamilton this season. However, the gap between Hamilton and the front three was huge when looked at in F1 terms.
Hamilton is his post Quali interview sounded pleased with his exploits and while talking about it said, “I am really happy with my qualifying position, to be honest,” he told Sky Sports after Q3, “my last lap was great and when I finished it I was like that was an awesome lap but it’s still 9 tenths off the guys ahead. I don’t understand how the gap has got bigger but they are kinda in their own league.”

Lewis Hamilton was asked by the team to give up his W13 in favor of Nyck de Vries for the FP1 session and during the interview, the brit admitted that it took him some time in getting to grips with the circuit after missing FP1.
“Considering I missed FP1, and was on the back foot for FP2, with some really good working coming together, we had a good result.”

Mercedes was able to finish P4 with Lewis Hamilton, but despite that the team was way behind Ferrari and Red Bull on the timing sheets. Lewis managed a time of 1:31:765 whereas Sergio who finished ahead of the Brit managed 1:31:335. This tells a lot about how much ahead the top teams are this season.
Moreover, Hamilton has indicated that the upgrades that the team brought to Paul Ricard were not as huge as some people thought it to be and while stressing about the same, the Brit said, “When we said we have brought an update. It’s the tiniest of things. It could be half a tenth, maybe a tenth if it worked perfect, but it is difficult to see if it worked, to be honest.“
“I came here thinking because we were three to four tenths off, that here we would be only three or two tenths off. This weekend we have been over a second off. When we got to 9 tenths off, I was happy with my lap and performance.”

Lewis Hamilton is aware that Ferrari and Red Bull are in a league of their own this season and feels given the machinery that Mercedes has got this season, his lap was really good and is looking forward to tomorrow’s Grand Prix.
