‘My worst weekend up to qualifying really’: Sergio Perez reflects on his recovery after a challenging start
Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez has emerged out to be Mr. Consistent for Red Bull this season but if he wants to find himself anywhere close to the likes of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, come the end of the season, he will have to up his performances a notch or he might have to say goodbye to his dream of winning the championship. It’s been another poor start to the weekend in France.
While Max Verstappen has been flying around the circuit in France, it’s been not the greatest of two days for Sergio Perez. It was imperative for the Mexican to put behind the disappointment of Austria and get back to winning ways. On a circuit, which has evenly fared out for both Red Bull and Ferrari, we expected the four drivers to be neck to neck but Sergio Perez has been the distant fourth, unfortunately.
Although he has been able to qualify P3 because of Carlos Sainz starting from the back of the grid, he still has a mountain to climb if he wants to stick with Charles Leclerc and team mate, Max Verstappen, during the race. The Mexican was evidently not happy with how the car was not responding to his demands.
Sergio Perez happy with his recovery during qualifying after one of the worst starts to the weekend
The Mexican, in a brutally honest interview, talked about how he able to recover after a tough start to the weekend. He said, “Yeah, it’s been a good recovery. I’ve been nowhere the whole weekend, to be honest. I’ve been struggling a lot. I think it probably has been my worst weekend up to qualifying really and finally we managed to recover well in Quali.”
Christian Horner after qualifying, said, “He turned up today. The Checo we had yesterday, he was working through a few things but he stepped it up a gear today and it’s great to see him back right there on the pace.”
“Both drivers, second and third on the grid, we can do something from there I believe in the race tomorrow.”
Sergio Perez has done a decent job after qualifying P3 but it’ll be a little naive to say that he has the pace to win the race because Max and Charles are looking class apart.
