Nico Hulkenberg is one of the most experienced drivers on the current Formula 1 grid. The German has been racing in the sport since 2010 on an off-and-on basis and has over 190 starts. However, despite this fact, the 35-year-old has not been able to score even a single podium finish.

He has come close a couple of times, but because of one reason or the other, he just hasn’t been able to stick his various cars in the top three places. He is considered one of the unluckiest drivers in Formula 1, but he feels his record is a testament to his strong skills as an F1 racing driver.

Nico Hulkenberg was recently asked to discuss his record of not having a single podium. He told Motorsport, “Obviously, when you start thinking about it that’s a little bit frustrating. Because every racing driver back then and even now wants to win, ideally. But at the same time, I’ve never had the car.”

I’ve had good cars and also had opportunities to deliver the podium, but then for various reasons, it never really happened. Never clicked and happened. But, to be honest, I’m still in a good, happy place – enjoying myself. And if I reflect back, of course, there were things I could’ve done better. But I’m not bitter or frustrated about it. I’m in a good place and going to hit I think 200 grand prix later in the season – somewhere around Mexico [in October],” he added.

While Nico Hulkenberg has made peace with his unfortunate F1 record, he has performed brilliantly during the ongoing 2023 season for the Haas Formula 1 team. After 12 rounds, Hulkenberg has managed 9 points in the lackluster VF-23 and has amassed a lot of applause from up and down the paddock.

Guenther Steiner and Co. are extremely pleased with what the German maestro has managed so far, and it is a common belief that Haas is willing to offer him a contract extension. Hulkenberg’s current deal with the Kannapolis-based team will run out at the end of the ongoing campaign in Abu Dhabi.

The Formula 1 extravaganza is making a return for its second leg on the 25h of August, and considering the good performances that Nico Hulkenberg put in during the first leg, a repeat of the same is going to be expected by the Haas F1 team and his die-hard fans all over the globe.
