“Not an ideal qualifying,” Sergio Perez unsatisfied as Charles Leclerc takes pole

Sergio Perez in the post qualifying interview

Sergio Perez is starting on P2 for the Sunday race at Azerbaijan, with a gap of +0.282 to Charles Leclerc, on his third pole of the season. Red Bull still looked strong on the Baku streets with an advantage of 9 km/s of raw speed over the Ferrari’s power unit. But things are not right with the Engines the RBPT provides the team since the team is suffering from reliability issues for all this time now.

All races have one instant when the RBPT gives up on the driver causing them some struggles, either on Practice or Qualifying days or on the Race days. And so did it on the final of Q3 qualifying for Sergio. “Not an ideal qualifying because at the end we just had a problem with the engine, we couldn’t turn it on,” said Perez in the post-qualifying interview.

But things could still be optimistic for the Red Bulls as the 2km straight to Turn 1 in Sector of the Baku circuit could immensely affect the likes of struggling Ferrari’s straight-line speed. If the Bulls manage to keep it up with the Ferrari of Leclerc at the start it would be easy to overtake the red team into turn 1.
