Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo denied a possibility for a McLaren pole position in the Hungarian GP. Despite a shocking performance in the practice, the McLaren duo still feels a pace loss compared to the top teams. Lando Norris praised the car’s performance in the second session and felt pretty comfortable with the pace. So did Daniel Ricciardo, but the duo only hopes them to be the fourth fastest on track tomorrow.
Lando Norris had a decent run in the first practice session finishing P4. He had a fantastic end to the second session with a P2 finish that gave hopes to the McLaren fans for a competitive Saturday. Although, Lando Norris dismissed all assumptions regarding a possible fight for the Pole and expects Ferrari and Red Bull to have a fairly good chance for the P1 position for Sunday. Not only the top two teams, Lando Norris expects Mercedes to have a better run than the orange team and have a higher position to finish on.
McLaren throughout the first half of the season spent building a decent pace to only fight the likes of Alpine for the P4 position. With a very well last season, the papaya team hoped to have a chance to win regularly regardless of the track. But this didn’t come true as the team is still in the core mid-field.
“But we’re always a little bit quicker in FP2 than what we end up being normally.”
“But we know everyone else, especially Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes normally step it up a lot for tomorrow. I think we’re feeling good. I think I can be happy but I’m not expecting to be fighting for pole or anything,” said Lando Norris as per PlanetF1.

Daniel Ricciardo takes on a possible pole position
Daniel finished a P5 in the second practice session, he agreed with his teammate all along the interview with his thoughts being the same. Ricciardo still feels McLaren lacks the pace to conquer the top.
“Being competitive in both sessions hopefully says something, hopefully, means that we actually are competitive. Again, I don’t think we’re competitive to fight for a Pole,” said Daniel Ricciardo.
The weather could also play a major role in the Pole position decider tomorrow. The 2021 season provided us with arguably one of the best races of the season due to rain. 2022 could also be prepared for more rain tomorrow.
