Aleix Espargaro
Aleix Espargaro is now the oldest rider in the MotoGP field, followed by his brother Pol Espargaro. The Aprilia racer, who turns 34 in July, had his most successful season to date in 2022. Aleix Espargaro is confident that, with Aprilia, he can fight for the MotoGP Championship once more in 2023. Despite the fact that “no one believes” he can do it, according to the Spaniard.
Espargaro won his and Aprilia’s first MotoGP races and was one of the season’s star riders in 2022. Aleix Espargaro also won the Noale-based Manufacturer’s first-ever premier-class pole position prior to the start of the Argentine Grand Prix, and he later defeated Jorge Martin in the race. Espargaro followed that up with incredible performances, including winning the pole position at his home race in Barcelona, before pulling off one of the best comebacks during a race this season at Assen.
Espargaro then moved up from 15th to fourth, including an amazing double overtake on Brad Binder and Jack Miller at the last chicane. Espargaro, who fortunately was able to stay in his RS-GP22, successfully recovered from his early collapse. However, Espargaro feels he won’t be given an opportunity going into the following season. “Now no one believes that we can do it again in 2023, but I believe. I understand that I have to keep proving myself after not fighting for a title for 15 years,” says the Aprilia Rider.

Since joining Aprilia in 2017, Espargaro has struggled. His lack of improvement on the Italian motorcycle forced him to ponder leaving the MotoGP in 2019. With his first-ever grand prix victory in Argentina and five more podium finishes. Espargaro became a dark horse championship contender in 2022 thanks to significant advancements made in the RS-GP. Espargaro concedes that the absence of competition in the last races of 2022 may have caused him to be too critical of his team, but overall, he thinks the season deserves a perfect score of 10.
The patience was worthwhile. As MotoGP made its first visit to Termas de Rio Hondo since 2019, a strong candidate on an updated, faster Aprilia Racing RS-GP was emerging. Aleix Espargaro, who had never previously won a Grand Prix, took the victory after a thrilling duel with fellow countryman Martin. Everyone realized at this point that Espargaro and Aprilia were the serious title challengers in 2022.
