Marc Marquez is one of the greatest MotoGP riders in history. Marquez has collected 8 Championship titles, with 6 of those being in MotoGP. ‘The Thunder of Cervera’ won all of his titles between 2013 and 2019. 2020 proved to be a challenging year for the Spaniard as he sustained numerous injuries due to a crash and missed the rest of the year.

He made a return in the 3rd race of 2021 and slowly got back up to pace. He finished the year with 4 podiums and 3 wins. Despite his best efforts, Marquez was eliminated from championship contention and chose to miss the last couple of races to focus on total rehabilitation.

Troubles did not stop here for Marquez, during the 2022 season, he suffered more injuries and missed out on 5 out of 11 races. Despite his poor fortune, Marquez scored his 91st pole in a rain soaked Japanese Grand Prix and went on to score his 100th podium in the Premier class at the Australian Grand Prix. He signed a 4 year contract with Honda in 2019, meaning he will carry on with the Japanese team in 2023.

Bastianini is one of the many riders who rate Marquez very highly. The Ducati Corse rider is certain of his belief that Marquez will be a pivotal factor in the 2023 championship hunt. Bastianini seems to be off the opinion that despite the Spaniard’s misfortune and tryst with injuries, he has a lot to offer to the sport. Bastianini is rooting for the Spaniard’s comeback and appears to be excited to race alongside him.

In a recent interview with italian club La Repubblica, Bastianini said. “Just look at the numbers, Marc won more than everyone else. This year he will be the main protagonist, the favorite. I’m sure we’ll see him again as the champion he is in great shape and it will be a pleasure to challenge him.”

While Bastianini is confident in his rival’s ability to regain his form once again, it will be interesting to see if the Spaniard’s team is able to produce a bike capable of challenging for the title. Notably, Honda have been on the back foot when it comes to bike performance since 2020.
