Nyck De Vries, since the start of the 2023 F1 campaign, has been under the pump from all angles. His outings with AlphaTauri have proved to be lackluster at best so far, and for that, he has come under a lot of pressure. However, despite all the doubters, he has revealed that he will do everything in his power to make the fans at the Red Bull ring proud of him.
Nyck De Vries is well aware of Austria being Red Bull’s home race and wants to showcase his skills well to the fans. Moreover, he has raced at the Red Bull ring before and is well aware of the characteristics of the track. The Red Bull ring is a free-flowing circuit with heavy braking zones.
De Vries, being a driver for a Red Bull-owned team, is prepared for what is coming his way, and while talking about it with Motorsport, he said, “Spielberg is a short course. It is much more difficult than it looks. You can lose a lot of time due to mistakes, and it is a track that is difficult for the brakes. It has a lot of long straights but also fast corners.”
“Finding performance is difficult due to the different downforce levels not easy. You want a little more wing, but at the same time, a package that allows you to race and fight. This often goes hand in hand with sliding, which in turn puts more pressure on the tires. It’s a trickier track than it looks on paper in that respect. It will be a fun weekend, and I hope to make everyone proud,” he added.
Nyck De Vries has been outclassed by Yuki Tsunoda at AlphaTauri
While Nyck De Vries has oozed a lot of optimism ahead of the upcoming race, it can’t be ignored that he has been pretty much outclassed by his young teammate, Yuki Tsunoda. Helmut Marko and Co. hired him with the hope of being at par with Tsunoda from the beginning, but unfortunately, that has not happened. Recently the Red Bull advisor admitted that going against Christian Horner’s advice to sign him might have been the wrong decision.
The Faenza-based team has so far managed to score only 2 points in the 2023 season, and both have been made possible by the efforts of Yuki Tsunoda. De Vries, on the other hand, has immensely struggled to get to grips with the AT04. This is one of the main reasons he has been under pressure at AlphaTauri.
However, a new dawn brings new opportunities, and the upcoming race at the Red Bull Rin could prove to be that opportunity where De Vries finally can showcase what he can do behind the wheel of an F1 car. He has a wealth of experience when it comes to racing, and it would be fascinating to see how he would perform at the event.
