Recently, Max Verstappen has set the world of F1 on fire as he continues to dominate the sport. At this point, his victory is more of an inevitability than a possibility. Former team owner Eddie Jordan recently deemed his era of domination to be one that ‘bores him to death’. He also believes Verstappen’s dominance is the most extreme the sport has witnessed.
However, former driver Johnny Herbert disagrees. Speaking to the media, he said the periods of domination in Formula 1, including Max Verstappen’s current success, are driven by the advanced technology and increased reliability of the cars compared to the past. Herbert cites examples of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and Michael Schumacher as previous dominant drivers in the sport.
“Max is not the first to do what he is doing. We have seen it with Lewis [Hamilton], Sebastian [Vettel], Michael [Schumacher]. The periods of domination now come from the technology that the teams are able to throw into it, with reliability the big difference between now and the 80s and 90s,” said Johnny Herbert.
He added, “I am wowed by what you see Max do on the track. Everyone should enjoy what Max does in the cockpit of a race car. I would say Eddie is talking out of his backside because what you are seeing is something very, very special. Like he saw come to think of it in the very early days of Michael Schumacher.” Herbert holds a different perspective entirely to Eddie Jordan.

Max Verstappen’s domination seemingly has no end
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen extended his extraordinary winning streak by most recently emerging victorious at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. With this latest triumph, the 25-year-old secured his fifth consecutive win, further bolstering his remarkable seven victories out of nine races. Since securing his maiden world championship in 2021, Verstappen has been on an immense streak of form.
At Austria, he surpassed Ayrton Senna to become the driver with 5th most Grand Prix wins of all time(42*). He has secured half of his 42 career wins in just the last 14 months. This displays just how unbeatable he has been since 2021. He most recently made his way to third in the list of most consecutive laps led, with a staggering 248 lasting from Miami to Austria.
Max Verstappen’s commanding lead in the 2023 season continues to expand, reaching an impressive 81 points after nine rounds. With such a substantial advantage, he is well on his way to securing the World Drivers’ Championship. The prospect of claiming a hattrick of championships is within reach for Verstappen, further solidifying his position among the elite to win three or more world titles.
Additionally, he has the opportunity to challenge Sebastian Vettel’s record of nine consecutive victories, showcasing his potential to rewrite the history books of the sport. He is the fastest man on the grid and the favorite to win the upcoming British GP.
