Oscar Piastri adds fuel to the fire: “I told Alpine I wasn’t going to continue”

The drama between Oscar Piastri and Alpine continues on as the young driver makes yet another revelation. The Alpine reserve driver for the current season has been confirmed to join McLaren for the 2023 season. The CRB in a recent verdict announced that the only valid contract Oscar Piastri has with McLaren. This came as a blow for Alpine who were expecting more out of the hearing.

McLaren haven’t been able to perform to its potential this season as Daniel Ricciardo hasn’t been to grind out the results. The Papaya Orange started off well but have faded away off late. Lando Norris has continued on his merry ways but haven’t received any sort of help from his Australian team mate. This meant a shake up in the driver line-up was needed for them to able to strike back next season.

McLaren have decided to go young for the 2023 season with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. But, the Woking based team didn’t get their man without their fair share of drama. Oscar Piastri had recently announced that he didn’t have any contract with Alpine to be their driver for the next season and therefore it was wrong on their end to publicly reveal him as their driver.

While Otmar Szafnauer denied knowing Oscar’s intentions, the reserve driver had a different opinion regarding that. He said, “My decision was made well in advance [of Alonso’s move to Aston Martin], which made Alpine’s announcement probably even more confusing and upsetting because we had told the team that I wasn’t going to continue.

“It was quite upsetting as the announcement was false, and it also denied me the opportunity to properly say goodbye to everyone at Enstone.

“I had been with the team for a bit over two and a half years, and for the rest of the team to find out I was leaving in that manner was very upsetting.

The ongoing transfer window has been pretty exciting but this particular saga needs to be brought an end. Oscar Piastri is definitely a talented driver but do you think he will be able to deliver under such immense pressure?
