Lewis Hamilton is one of the most loved and respected drivers in the history of Formula 1. The Briton has earned respect for himself due to his work towards making the sport more inclusive and respectable. Many driver in the current grid who grew up watching him want’s leave a similar legacy behind and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri is no different.

Oscar Piastri was questioned about his thoughts on leaving a legacy in the sport beyond just race victories and championships. The 23-year-old said that it would be a ‘nice thing to have’ a footprint apart from his performances and work to make the world a better place like Lewis Hamilton.

Apart from this, Oscar Piastri reflected upon the golden days of the sport. He also recalled a former driver Jackie Stewart and the things he did for the sake of the sport. The 23-year-old pointed out the safety that Stewart brought into the world of Formula 1.

You look at someone like Sir. Jackie [Stewart] as well... The safety he bought to Formula 1 and the world of motorsport as well... So you look at those kind of people and it's pretty special, the legacy they've left off the track and would be a nice thing to have for sure.

Oscar Piastri ‘reasonably optimistic’ over McLaren’s winning chances at the Japanese GP

The McLaren squad had a decent pace and performance during the previous race weekend in Australia. Hence, the team aims to replicate, if not perform better than in Albert Park. Oscar Piastri highlighted the competitive MCL38 for McLaren. Thus, the 23-year-old asserted that it would be interesting to see if Woking can replicate the pace showcased in Australia.

Apart from this, Piastri reflected upon McLaren’s performance at the 2023 Japanese GP. The drivers scored a two-three finish in the Asian country previously. Hence, the Aussie driver is optimistic about the team’s chances this time around in Japan. However, the 23-year-old did not fail to acknowledge how other drivers had gained more strength than the last time around.

Obviously it was a good track for us last year, but I feel like other people have gained some more strengths. So yeah, we’ll see what we can do, but I think we’re reasonably optimistic we can be close to the front.

Hence, McLaren would aim to score a maiden victory for either of the drivers in the Papaya Squad. Woking has showcased the team’s capabilities multiple times throughout the 2024 season. The team has minimized errors during the previous three races. Hence, time will tell about how McLaren fares at the high-speed corner-laden Japanese GP.
